Tea Bungalows, Central Highlands of Sri Lanka
The Tea Trails, Dickoya
The Tea Trails are a wonderful collection of four tastefully refurbished
tea planter's bungalows: Castlereigh, Norwood, Tientsin and Summerville.
The four properties, which opened in 2005, are situated in Dickoya, a
beautiful lakeside location in the heart of Sri Lanka's tea-growing
highlands. The Tea Trails offers the highest standards of old-world
luxury and is sold on a full-board basis.
Tientsin Bungalow, Dickoya
Tientsin Bungalow was originally one of the first properties to be built
for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj. This luxurious
bungalow is a perfect getaway deep in the Southern Highlands. Six
renovated old-style rooms open onto spacious gardens.
Castlereigh, Dickoya
Castlereigh is a century-old bungalow nestling at 45kms south of
Nuwara Eliya, over 5000 feet above sea
level. An indulgent, luxurious property, originally built for British
tea estate managers in the days of the Raj, it occupies a prime position
in a wooded area close to a lake.
Norwood Bungalow, Dickoya
This luxurious old tea planters' bungalow commands fine mountain views,
about 45 minutes south of Nuwara Eliya.
Summerville, Dickoya
Summerville is another highly-recommended bungalow in the Southern
Highlands, 45 minutes south of Nuwara Eliya. It stands high above a lake
at the edge of a tea plantation.
Kirchhayn Bungalow
Kirchhayn Bungalow stands in peaceful grounds on the edge of the
Aislabie Tea Estate, near "the forgotten hill station" of Bandarawela,
in the breathtaking Southern Highlands.
This is a spacious property with magnificent gardens.
Kirchhayn
Kirchhayn is a haven a few miles from the "forgotten hill station" of
Bandarawela, and has an expansive and relaxing feel. To stay here has
been accurately described as "like having the use of some friends' home
while they're away."
Calliandra Bungalow
Calliandra Bungalow is situated 1,200 meters up in the tea district of
Uva at Poonagala, just west of Bandarawela. The Bungalow is over 100
years old, built in the days of the intrepid Scottish tea planter, who
wished to create a home away from home.
Silver Spring Lodge
Silver Springs Lodge is situated high above a steep-sided valley,
blessed with panoramic views of the Namunukula mountain range, paddy
fields, tea estates and vegetable gardens.

Sherwood Bungalow
Sherwood Bungalow is a beautiful recently-refurbished bungalow on
working tea plantation, surrounded by a well-kept garden, with a variety
of flowers, birds and butterflies and blessed with beautiful views of
the mountains beyond. Recline in a Planter's chair and enjoy the scenic
beauty of this place with a hot cup of Ceylon's finest tea. Sherwood
Bungalow provides for a fantastic alternative to a hotel.
Thotalagala, Dambaetenne Tea Estate
Sit on one of the benches in the garden, cup of Ceylon Tea in hand, and
watch the mist rise up from the valley floor, slowly cloaking the
mountain from which you peer.
Diyatalawe, Adam's Peak, Talawakele, Dickoya

Set in the south-eastern slopes of Sri Lanka's tea-growing hills the
bungalow boasts some breathtaking scenery. A beautiful garden makes for
perfect quiet afternoons sipping tea and reading novels.
Fishing Hut, Peak Wilderness Reserve, close to Adam's Peak
This a wonderful place for an outdoor holiday, located on the bank of a
gently flowing mountain stream once famous for trout fishing. Built by
tea planters' of a by-gone era, these two log cabins offer a truly
unique experience.
Rosita, Kotagala, Dimbulla Valley, close to Talawakele
Rosita is a spacious, comfortable, smartly-furnished and well-managed
five-bedroom bungalow perched on a neatly clipped lawn and surrounded by
verdant tea plantations.
Upper Glencairn, Dickoya
The bungalow is a colonial estate property set amongst tea plantations
with a view of Adam's Peak, and provides an ideal base for travellers
climbing Adams Peak and is often used the night before or the morning
after the climb.
