Tissa Wewa Rest House, Anuradhapura

Tissawewa Rest House Dry Zone Garden

Tissawewa Rest House Dry Zone Garden

Setting
Located with grand views of the ancient renovated Tissa Wewa Rainwater Reservoir and ancient renovated Mirisavatiya Dagaba, Tissa Wewa Rest House, a two-storied, tiled-roofed building, a budget Sri Lanka Hotel stands in 11 acres of wooded parkland of north central dry plains (the ancient kingdom of reservoirs) of  Sri Lanka. The waters of the ancient rainwater reservoir fan gentle breeze into Tissa Wewa Rest House to ease the effects of hot and dry climate of Anuradhapura.

Ancient Splendor Vs. Colonial Mediocrity
Tissa Wewa Rest House or The Grand Hotel, as it was known in the British Colonial era at once brings in a bewildering contradiction and contrast: the building is simply another remnant of the British Colonial administration in Ceylon; yet it is located in the ancient Sinhalese Royal Pleasure Gardens of the Anuradhapura, the greatest monastic city (438 BC – 845 AD) of the ancient world.
The British rediscovered the lost city; renovated some of the cultural monuments; rebuilt the some of the ancient rainwater reservoir; and then thrust the mediocre colonial architecture into midst of the stupendous ancient edifices of the ancient city.

Location: Sri Lanka Holidays Boulder Garden is located 198km from Colombo at Kalawana of south west region of Sri Lanka close to Ratnapura, the City of Gems.

Riolta Remarks by bunpeiris: Sri Lanka Holidays Boulder Garden is a modern day interpretation of twist, turn & rock of ancient Sri Lanka’s tradition of building onto the Rock caves. But then again, in ancient Sri Lanka, while it had been temples that were built into the rock caves, during your Sri Lanka Holidays in the modern Sri Lanka, it is eco-nature holiday resorts that are built into the rock caves & boulders. Boulder Garden built into the rocks, onto the rocks & sheltered by the rocks is a nature based secluded evergreen sanctuary of a hotel, an oasis of tranquility with its distinctive features. It is another one of those unique nature master hotels of Sri Lanka Holidays.

Setting: Back to the nature. Located at a foot of a hill overlooking a tea estate with exotic tropic surroundings including paddy fields on the fringes of Kalawana village, the Boulder Garden is the gateway resort to Lion king (Sinharaja) Tropical Rain Forest, a Sri Lanka Holidays World Heritage Site.

Architecture: The main entrance of the resort is located in an open cave. 2 out of 10 suits are quite literary rock caves. Then again the bar is another rock cave. Such is the design the rocks are allowed to intrude into some of the bathrooms while the resort is equipped with all modern amenities such as swimming pool, telephones, air conditioning, mini bars & Jacuzzis.

Ambience: Winding steps of stone leads to 10 suites set up in 4 rising tiers. The deep corridors with rock walls, grilled windows with massive timber beams and mirror-polished cement floors combine to create a medieval ambience.

Accommodation: Spread over 15 acres, the evergreen secluded hideaway of all suite luxury boutique resort is well sheltered by gigantic overhanging boulders. All suits provide private balconies and terraces for you to enjoy the magnificent evergreen tropical surroundings of Sri Lanka Holidays Boulder garden.

Herein is another glorious Geoffrey Bawa Special. Bask in the light and space special effects show. Glorious!
Herein is a stunning telescopic view: the airy and spacious lobby ends at the infinity pool that runs all the way to reach the beach. The effect is astonishing: the bluish expanse of infinity pool blending with the blues of the sea and the blues of the horizon. There’s blue and shades of blue, tones of blue, there’s space, there’s more space, there’s light, again light, the expansive blue pool, still more of pool and the sea, the sea, the horizon, then endless horizon- it holds your breath up.
