Hotel Ceysands, the sands of Ceylon, true to its name is right on the sands of the Beach. And the beach is no other than the prime resort beach of Sri Lanka: Bentota. Then again, the thin strip of lush ever greenland where Hotel Ceysands sits is the prime real estate of Bentota: at the very tip of the Bentota peninsula called Paradise Island.
The pristine golden sands of Bentota Beach watches the waters of River Bentara of Bentota in a swift quick-sand like motion yields, with no fuss at all, to the mighty Indian Ocean. The tiny Paradise Island is tropical to the every grain of sand at the beach of Bentota. The shaded and sheltered tongue of the peninsula resplendent in all shades and tones of greens has the turquoise waters of the Indian ocean hell bent in the romance: the sea, the sea goes on surfing, rolling, lapping at the beach courting the River Bentara. The river, river, she never tires: flows and flows and flows for ever to meet her lover.
The sands of Bentota: this is where the eternal romance burns in its high intensity tropical flame. Hot and humid; breeze and shelter; river and ocean; the Palm trees and Tamarind trees; the stars and the moon; you and she. bunpeiris

Chaaya Bey hotel, a 200-room four-star property on 11 acres of beachfront land strong>Golden Mile’ on the Beruwela Chaaya Bey with 200 rooms and an array of restaurants will be a benchmark for quality and class in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry,’’ he promised. “It will play a significant part in bridging the deficit (of quality accommodation) on the Southern coast. Chaaya Bey is coming up on what was previously the location of Hotel Bayroo that was flattened by the December 2004 tsunami. JKH acquired the adjoining five acres too to build the new hotel whose Rs. 3 billion price tag includes the cost of land acquisition.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa later visited the site and examined plans for the luxury property due to be completed in 20 months as its owners, the John Keells Holdings Group (Chaaya Hotels & Resorts), the country’s biggest conglomerate, gears to take advantage of the anticipated tourism boom. 30 August 2010
Bangkok-based Six Senses’ founder Sonu Shivdasani is partnering with Sri Lanka’s Aitken Spence Hotels to create an exclusive 71-villa project, occupying 101/2 acres of beachfront land and the 26-acre Meeraladuwa Island, just south of Bentota. Slated for early 2014.
Esna Villas, a company fully owned by Esna Holdings, has invested in a beach property on Nilaveli beach, Trincomalee. with a 144 feet beach frontage. This project, which is valued at USD 1 million, is the company’s first foray into the leisure sector. The company plans to set up an “all suite” boutique hotel on the property with construction already being in progress.
Eshana De Silva, Chairman, Esna Holdings, observed that this project includes a “Presidential Villa” which has a private swimming pool with all the luxury amenities of a Five-Star property. We are very excited as this would be the only project of this kind in Trincomalee.
Sri Lanka has seen a massive influx of tourists after the much anticipated post-war tourism boom. Esna Villas plans to set up similar boutique hotels in other prime tourist locations around the Island. There is little doubt that projects such as these are vital in post-war Sri Lanka. 29 December 2010

Fort Fredrick
On a cliff in a small peninsula jutting out of the town of Chaaya Blu Trincomalee is the Fort Fredrick built by the Portuguese in the year 1675 and occupied by the Dutch and the English in succession. Within the Fort are numerous colonial buildings and the Hindu shrine called Koneswaram Kovil. Fort Fredrick is also home to herd of deer that has become domesticated and live freely devoid of fear, amidst the inhabitants therein.
Koneswaram Temple
At the northern tip of Fort Frederick is a cliff called “Swami Rock” (Rock of the Hindu priest) which drops straight down 110 meters into the sea below. The location affords breathtaking view of the natural harbor of Trincomalee and the Indian Ocean.
On the summit of Swami Rock is the Tirukonesvaram Hindu Kovil where colorful “Poojas” or religious services are conducted at dusk. The Shrine is dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. In the year 1622 the temple was destroyed and the revered Shiva Lingam, the symbol of God Shiva was thrown off the cliff by the Portuguese. The building blocks, bricks and stones of the shrine were used to construct the Fort Fredrick by the Portuguese. The shrine was rebuilt albeit on a modest scale, from scratch on a later day. In the year 1962, while taking the underwater shots of the Sinhala movie Ran Muthu Duwa (Golden Pearl island), the revered Shiva Lingam was miraculously discovered in the sea bed off Trincomalee, by the legendary marine photographer of Ceylon, Mike Wilson. Mike Wilson restored same to the shrine and went onto become Hindu priest by the name “Swami Kalki” in search of God Skanda, the much adored deity of Kataragama.

To the southwest of the island is a large coral reef 200 meters in length and 100 meters in width. Island is a pleasant place to go on swimming, snorkeling, diving and sun bathing.
The Velgam Vihara
The ancient Buddhist temple of Velgam Vihara is of history running as far as the era of King Devanam Piya Tissa, whose reign saw the arrival of Buddhism to Sri Lanka from India.
